How to Create a Surprise Wedding Dance

Szewai Lee

Surprise wedding dances are getting more and more popular these days. Some couples forgo the traditional first dance and replace it with a hip hop wedding dance. And it doesn’t limit to just the couple dance, you can involve your bridesmaids, groomsmen and even your parents for some fun and jaw-dropping dance performances. Possibilities are endless! Whether you want to surprise your wedding guests with a hip hop first dance, bridesmaids dance or father-daughter dance. In this blog post, we will show you how to create a surprise wedding dance that will wow everyone at your wedding.

Choose a Song

The best way to begin is to find a fun and exciting song that everyone will enjoy. Check out our list of Best Wedding Party Dance Songs.

Find Inspirations

It’s a great idea to see what other couples have done at their weddings and decide what you’d like to do with your partner or your wedding party. You will find a lot of ideas on YouTube. Also, check out these choreographed routines we’ve created below. Feel free to use them as inspirations. You can also receive step-by-step instruction by signing up HERE.

Learn Some Moves

Once you have decided on a song and ideas for your surprise dance, it’s time to get started with some cool dance moves. Don’t know where to begin? Start with these 3 beginner friendly hip hop moves!

Hire a Choreographer

Choreographing a dance routine is no easy task, especially for those of you who are totally new to dance. So, instead of trying to mimic what you’ve seen on YouTube, why not hire a professional choreographer who can create a routine based on your song choice, personalities and dance experiences? Our dance experts at Duet Dance Studio will be happy to help. Click HERE to get started.

Practice and Have Fun

To perform a choreographed surprise wedding dance with confidence takes practice! We suggest giving yourself at least 3 months to prepare for a choreographed wedding dance. It’s a good idea to set up weekly practices leading up to your wedding. That way, not only will you be able to perform confidently at your wedding, you can actually enjoy the process of learning to dance with your future husband/wife or your wedding party. It’s going to be a wonderful bonding experience and stress reliever before your big day. Enjoy!

Top Songs for Mother-Daughter Dance and Unconventional Parent Dances at Weddings

Szewai Lee

Our favorite part of wedding receptions? The dancing of course!! Traditional formal dances usually include a first dance, a mother son dance, and a father daughter dance. But in some families, this dynamic might be different. For such a special moment with loved ones, we want you to find the right song no matter who you dance with. Maybe your aunt is stepping in for the mother son dance, or your brother for the father daughter. Whatever your unique situation, we have found a song to match! We have highlighted some of our favorites below, but check out the whole playlist for more options. The best part is we’ve listed what dance styles work with each song. Enjoy!
