What Not to Do at your Wedding | 6 Ideas that Lead to a Disastrous Wedding

Having a unique and memorable wedding is many couples' dream. Over the years, we have seen successful weddings incorporating bridal party flash mob, magic show or belly dance performance, but at the same time, we've seen so many failed wedding ideas. To help you create an unforgettable wedding experience without ending up in the hospital, the wedding experts at Duet Dance Studio have compiled a list of 6 disastrous ideas to avoid at your wedding.

1. Back Flip Fail

It’s generally a good policy to avoid any and all acrobatic tricks for a wedding- with the only exception being the marriage of a Cirque De Soliel dancer to an olympic gymnast, and even then we have some reservations. Weddings tend to spike adrenaline, and when that mixes with stress, nerves, and/or alcohol, most people find themselves unable to ‘stick the landing’. We’re going to say this again people: just don’t do it, please, for everyone’s sake.

2. Indoor wedding fireworks

Indoor wedding fireworks is definitely on the list of things we never thought we’d have to warn you about, but here we are. We suggest sticking with small sparklers, and even then you should use caution.

3. Hiring an Amateur DJ

Hiring a professional DJ sounds like an obvious piece of advice, but you should really be picky about your DJ selection. You are entrusting this person with the fun and atmosphere of your entire reception. We recommend asking for recommendations and testimonials as well as checking online review sites. Or you might end up like the poor couple in this video. So many…..long……. uncomfortable…….pauses….

Or like this DJ, who is the only person having fun...

4. Awkward First Dance

The first dance expresses a lot about a couple’s personalities and relationship. It’s a chance to have fun moving together, be romantic, and show everyone why you’re so crazy in love. So why on earth would you want to awkwardly hug your new spouse while swaying in a circle for an entire song? Yawn!

5. Over-the-Top First Dance Fail

If you’re performing something that doesn’t authentically represent you as a couple, it can come across as over the top. There’s a fine line between impressive and ‘cheesy’, and getting advice from a wedding dance specialist can help you find the right balance while building your confidence.

6. Drunk Guest Pole Dancing

Alcohol has an almost magical power to make dancing either really good or really really terrible. Use it wisely, or you might end up on the internet. You might even end up collapsing a huge tent.

Any other things we should avoid at weddings? Please share your thoughts!
